The Revelation

"God is the Lord and has revealed Himself unto us; blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord" (Psalm 118:26-27). The first foundation of Christian doctrine is found in this biblical line: God has revealed Himself to us. God has shown Himself to His creatures. He has not disclosed His very innermost being, for this innermost essence of God cannot be grasped by creatures. But God has truly shown what men can see and understand of His divine nature and will. The fullness and perfection of God's self-revelation is found in His Son Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of the gradual and partial revelation of God in the Old Testament. Jesus is the one truly "blessed... who comes in the name of the Lord."

Why Does The Orthodox Church Have Lengthy Prayers?

"The work of prayer belongs to the angels, and is, therefore, the special concern of the Church. Every other work, i.e., charity, nursing the brethren, visiting the sick, caring for prisoners, releasing captives, and other similar things, is done by the brethren in love and offered by them to God. Similarly, poverty, fasting, sleeping on the ground, prostrations, vigils, etc., are good and like a sacrifice to God, because they aim to subdue and humble the body so that we may be purified and approach God and become friends of God.

How Should One Prepare For The Holy and Divine Communion?

The fathers relate to us that, besides other divine gifts, there was also bestowed by God upon Saint Euthymios the following: to perceive, from the external appearance, the internal activities of the souls of people, as though seeing them in mirror images; and to know in detail the thoughts with which each one battled, and, indeed, which among these thoughts he was defeating and by which, through the operation of the devil, he was being defeated.

What Does Mean To Be An Orthodox Christian?

What is meant by 'Orthodox'?/What does mean to be an Orthodox Christian?
An easy question to answer to most of the MGOCSMians. To be Orthodox means to be a member of the local Orthodox parish;), to believe in the Church's Holy Tradition; to participate in the Eucharist etc. But does it qualify us to be "Orthodox"?
